Jacques shared his invaluable insights on the industry’s latest trends and growth strategies, offering a comprehensive look into what lies ahead in this ever-evolving landscape.

Edward: Can you tell us a bit about your background and how you got involved in the iGaming affiliate industry?

My journey in the iGaming affiliate industry began back in 2003 when I landed a customer services position at a small gambling operator based in London. After a year, I decided to explore the exciting world of affiliate marketing. Over the next 2 years, I developed my skills in this role, gaining valuable insights into the industry.

Driven by curiosity and a passion for growth, I transitioned to various gambling operators, ranging from small-scale ventures to major players, over the next 4 years. This diverse experience allowed me to understand the nuances of the industry, from affiliate partnerships to player acquisition strategies.

However, my journey didn’t stop there. Eager to broaden my horizons, I ventured into different industries, absorbing knowledge and adapting my expertise along the way. Eventually, I took a leap and started Betcub.com, where I now operate as an affiliate. Being on the other side of the spectrum has given me a unique perspective, allowing me to create meaningful connections and drive success in the iGaming world.

Edward: Many affiliates face challenges when starting out. What difficulties did you encounter on your journey to success in the iGaming affiliate industry?

I’ve encountered several hurdles on my journey to where I am today. Let me share some of the difficulties I’ve been facing:

1) Platform Development and Team Building:

– Platform Development: Creating a robust and user-friendly platform is crucial. Finding the right developers, designers, and technical experts to build and maintain the platform was a challenge. Balancing functionality, aesthetics, and performance required careful planning.

– Team Building: Assembling a skilled team is essential. Ensuring that you have the right people around you to ensure smooth operations is not an easy task. Finding individuals who share the same vision, work ethic, and trust your philosophy is critical.

2) Traffic Acquisition:

– Organic Traffic: Attracting organic traffic to the website is a significant challenge. SEO, content marketing, and building a brand presence required consistent effort. Patience is key as organic growth takes time.

– Paid Traffic: Navigating paid advertising (PPC, social media ads, etc.) is equally challenging. Optimizing ad campaigns, managing budgets, and targeting the right audience demanded continuous learning and adaptation.

3) Navigating the Gambling Space:

– Regulations and Compliance: The iGaming industry operates within strict regulations. Understanding legal requirements, licensing, and compliance was a learning curve. Staying updated with changes in laws across different regions is essential.

– Ethical Considerations: Promoting a safe and enjoyable experience for users while adhering to ethical standards required thoughtful decision-making.

4) Learning and Testing:

– Continuous Learning: The industry evolves rapidly. Keeping up with trends, algorithm updates, and industry news was a challenge. Regular learning through webinars, conferences, and networking helped me stay informed.

– Testing Strategies: Trial and error is definitely part of the journey. Testing different marketing strategies, affiliate programs, and conversion optimization techniques is allowing me to refine my approach.

In summary, the iGaming affiliate industry demands resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to learn.

Edward: What aspects of being an iGaming affiliate do you enjoy the most? Are there specific elements or experiences that keep you motivated in this industry?

I find the opportunity to explore potential partnerships with gambling operators to be one of the most enjoyable aspects of my job. Whether it’s reaching out to established brands or discovering emerging affiliate programs, the thrill lies in connecting with industry players. Networking events, conferences, and online groups allow me to engage with like-minded professionals, exchange ideas, and build lasting relationships. It’s these interactions that keep me motivated in this business. Being an iGaming affiliate is a blend of strategy, relationship-building, and constant learning. It’s a journey where every twist and turn adds to the excitement, and I’m eager to see what the next chapter holds.

Edward: On the flip side, what aspects of the iGaming affiliate industry do you dislike or find challenging?

Tracking results by logging into different affiliate platforms can be time-consuming and often feels tedious. Manually navigating through various dashboards, pulling data, and analyzing performance metrics can eat up valuable hours. The solution is to invest in aggregators to consolidate their stats in one place, simplifying this process would definitely enhance efficiency.

Edward: Could you share some of the most common or recurring issues you face as an affiliate in the iGaming sector?

As an affiliate in the iGaming sector, I’ve been encounter several challenges. Here are some of the most common issues:

– Regulatory Challenges: The iGaming industry operates under extensive regulations, both online and offline, across different countries. Affiliates must familiarize themselves with the regulatory landscape in the regions where they operate or promote gambling campaigns. Key aspects include licensing requirements, restrictions on marketing practices, age verification protocols, and responsible gaming initiatives.

– Content Quality: Producing compelling and valuable content is crucial. High-quality content not only attracts users but also ensures compliance with regulations. Balancing engaging content with responsible messaging is essential.

– Dependence on Operators: Affiliates rely on iGaming operators for tracking, reporting, and payouts. Building strong relationships with operators is vital.

– Navigating Market Saturation: The iGaming niche is competitive, with numerous websites and platforms vying for attention. Standing out requires creativity, unique angles, and targeted marketing strategies.

– Affiliate Marketing Ethics: Adhering to ethical practices is essential. Transparency, honesty, and responsible promotion contribute to long-term success.

– Lack of UX Focus: User experience (UX) matters. Affiliates should consider the usability, design, and functionality of the platforms they promote. A positive user experience enhances conversions.

– SEO: Avoid unethical SEO practices, such as keyword stuffing, cloaking, or link schemes. Search engines penalize such tactics, impacting rankings and credibility.
