In an exclusive interview presented by The Inside Bet, in collaboration with Affiliate Roulette, we had the privilege of conversing with Davor Kunčič, Affiliate Manager at Wolfy Affiliates. As we delve into the dynamic world of iGaming, Davor graciously shares his valuable insights on the latest industry trends and growth strategies.

Edward: Could you please share your background and how you initially entered the iGaming industry?

Some things in life come by coincidence. A lucky coincidence so to say. I got in the industry through my friends, who were active bettors on the professional side. This industry had always some charm in it for me, however i never enjoyed gambling myself. Through the years I have been involved in all sides of this industry, starting as sportsbook operator, then betting on sports professionally, working for affiliates and ending up in casino industry where I am involved in many operations and affiliate management would be one of them at the moment.

Edward: Reflecting on your journey from your entry into the industry to where we are today, what are the most significant concerns you have regarding the iGaming sector?

Igaming is a fairly new industry which is still evolving. It has come long way from where it has started to where it stands now, however in my opinion it still needs to be sharpened a bit, for me its still a bit of a wild west which i actually enjoy to be honest. Market has become pretty saturated these days, which causes only for the good brands to survive which is good on the other hand for the players and also not only brands but players have also evolved to the point where they do their own research before choosing a brand, which is great.

Edward: What are some of the biggest challenges you face as an iGaming Affiliate Manager? In your opinion, what are some effective strategies or tools that could help overcome these challenges? For example, how do you distinguish legitimate affiliates from the fraudulent ones?

Costs of the traffic these days are through the roof. It has become a lot tougher for new brands compared to few years ago as there is such a high demand for affiliates with market being saturated that the affiliates are the ones who are profiting the most. Everyone is just paying what affiliates ask for, eventhough the operators are mostly not making any profit with such high deals nowadays. So getting a really good traffic with a deal that is working for both parties in the end could be an art. For spotting the fraudulent affiliates i have a good eye, by being scammed myself a couple of times, you learn very fast how they work. Also we discuss affiliates with other brands so we find out pretty quickly who is legit and who is scam.

Edward: When evaluating potential affiliates, what is your perspective on verifying an affiliate’s past performance? Do you rely on screenshots they provide, or do you have other methods of assessment in place?

I do not belive screenshots at all, those really do not matter to me as they could be taken from anyone. Usually we check their website traffic, discuss the affiliate with other brands that they work with if that is possible and after that we give it a try if the deal is not considered to be risky. Lots of times we just test it out for a month and see if it has any potential in it. Unfortunately we do not have a crystal ball which will show us the future, therefore we test the traffic, so we can say we also gamble sometimes, but we try to minimize the risk in it.

Edward: It appears that many affiliates are now requesting listing fees and high CPA’s, which seem to have become an industry standard. Do you find it difficult to determine who can justify the fees they charge and who overpromises and under delivers?

Indeed, listing fees have become a standard thing these days compared to previous years where basically every deal was revenue share only. We are pretty much against those fees as in most cases they were never justified in the end so we try to avoid them as much as possible. Affiliate managers talk to each other, same as affiliates do, therefore it becomes known pretty quickly whose listing fees are justified and whose are not. Regarding the traffic results, that varies from brand to brand, for one brand one affiliate will deliver great results while the other operator will have bad results with them. Lots of factors must be counted in that, and there is no one formula which would fit us all.

Edward: How do you think a platform like Affiliate Roulette can benefit affiliate managers in the iGaming industry? Can you share any experiences or insights on how Affiliate Roulette has influenced your approach to affiliate management?

Definitely it is connecting affiliates and operators which is great for all. By having a directory like we can see at Affiliate Roulette we have access to all information at one place which saves us work and time in the end and it keeps things transparent. I have just started exploring Affiliate Roulette and listing the affiliate program on it but so far i find it being amazing!

Edward: In closing, what would you like to see offered from Affiliate Roulette that would help you have outstanding performance in 2024?

I was thinking about it for 5 minutes straight but could not find the answer for it!
